Course Description
This 8-hour course is designed for entry-level firefighters to provide essential knowledge and skills needed for effective response to flood-related emergencies. Participants will learn the fundamentals of flood dynamics, risk assessment, and the roles of fire service personnel during flood operations. The course will cover critical topics such as:
Floodwater safety and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Water rescue techniques, including basic boat operations and swiftwater awareness
Incident command structure in flood scenarios
Evacuation procedures and shelter operations
Hazardous materials concerns in flood situations
Flood zone assessments and triage
Through a mix of classroom instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, this course will ensure firefighters are prepared to safely and effectively assist in flood response operations. By the end of the day, participants will have a solid foundation in flood emergency procedures, enhancing their confidence and capability in flood-related incidents.
